Liz McCandless serves as Senior Lecturer and Director of Clinics at the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Law, joining the faculty in 2022. As a core member of the clinical practice team, she teaches Advanced Legal Research, Constitutional Law, Legal Systems, Legal Methods, and supervises the Rights Clinic program.
Her academic credentials include an LL.B (2007) and LL.M. (2020), both earned at the University of Manitoba. She was called to the Manitoba Bar in 2008, receiving the A. Montague Israels Q.C. Prize for academic excellence.
McCandless specializes in constitutional law and public interest litigation, with significant contributions to human rights and Aboriginal law reform. Her clinical scholarship emphasizes experiential learning through community partnerships, particularly in animal welfare law where she co-founded the Manitoba Bar Association's Animal Law Section. This work bridges legal theory with practical advocacy in vulnerable communities.

McCandless actively mentors through Pro Bono Students Canada projects and the Law Society of Manitoba’s CPLED Program. She provides pro bono legal research for the Public Interest Law Centre and has served as legal observer at harm-reduction sites.
Her leadership extends to the Winnipeg Humane Society Board of Directors and the Manitoba Bar Association Legal Research Section executive, demonstrating deep commitment to legal community development beyond campus.
