Noah Smith-Drelich is an Assistant Professor of Law at Chicago-Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of Technology. His academic work focuses on tort law, constitutional law, civil liberties, and public health. He teaches Torts, Civil Procedure, Constitutional Litigation, and a Section 1983 Practicum. His research explores incentive structures in tort law, the constitutional right to travel, and mass torts. He has published in leading法学 journals, including the Northwestern University Law Review and California Law Review Online.
Education: J.D. and M.S. from Stanford Law School, B.A. from Williams College. Recognitions include the 2022 Chicago-Kent Student Bar Association Professor of the Year and Excellence in Teaching Award. Pro bono work includes leading Thunderhawk v. County of Morton, a class action challenging police abuses related to the Dakota Access Pipeline protests. He serves as Rules Reporter for the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Key research interests include legal causation in mass torts, travel rights under state and federal law, and public health nutrition policies. His recent articles address travel rights during pandemics, racial disparities in school nutrition policies, and statistical approaches to legal causation.
