Letitia Basford serves as Professor and Department Chair of HSEL in Hamline University's School of Education & Leadership. She concurrently holds leadership roles as co-director of the Masters in Teaching program and director of the Student Project for Amity among Nations (SPAN) program.
Her research centers on dismantling systemic inequities through investigations of the school-to-prison pipeline, culturally specific charter school models for Somali and Hmong youth, and Science of Reading implementation in K-2 literacy curricula. She examines transformative teaching practices that promote educational access, with emphasis on inclusive curriculum advocacy and anti-oppressive pedagogical frameworks.
Basford actively shapes teacher preparation through the Masters in Teaching program while advancing international collaboration via SPAN. Her prior K-12 experience as an ESL and teen-parent educator in northern California directly informs her scholarship on marginalized student populations and equitable school policies.
