Susan D. Bosher is a Professor in the English Department at St. Catherine University, where she has served since 1997 and was promoted to Professor in 2011. She also serves as Director of ESL and is on the graduate faculty at Hamline University, advising students in the M.A. in ESL program. Her academic background includes a PhD in Second Languages and Cultures Education from the University of Minnesota (1995) and an M.A. in TESOL from Columbia University (1984).
Her research focuses on acculturation, ethnicity, and second-language acquisition, particularly among Hmong students in post-secondary education. She has extensive experience in curriculum development, notably as Curriculum Coordinator for the Commanding English Program (1988–1992), which emphasized content-based academic reading and writing for immigrant youth. Additional roles include teaching EFL and American Studies in Germany (1992–1994) and serving as a Senior Fulbright Scholar in Turkey (1994–1996).
Bosher’s career spans teaching and leadership in ESL programs, including early roles at the University of Minnesota’s English Program for International Students and the Commanding English Program. She has contributed to academic discussions on language policy and immigrant education through her research and publications.
