Dr. Justine Andreu Darling is an Adjunct Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Certificate in Restorative Justice Leadership & Facilitation at the University of San Diego (USD), within the School of Peace and Justice Studies. She holds a PhD in Education from San Diego State University and an MA in Peace and Justice Studies from USD. Her work focuses on addressing systemic inequities in schools and communities through restorative justice practices, with a particular emphasis on criminal justice reform and dismantling the school-to-prison pipeline.
Since 2011, Dr. Darling has co-founded and led USD’s restorative justice program, supporting residential life, student affairs, and conduct offices. She previously served as Director of Restorative Justice Practices at the National Conflict Resolution Center, implementing programs across K-12 schools, universities, and criminal justice systems in San Diego. She currently serves as Associate Director of USD’s Center for Restorative Justice, overseeing the Professional Certificate in Restorative Justice Facilitation and Leadership and the National Restorative Coaching Program.
Her expertise includes global restorative practices, informed by experiences with Northern Ireland’s Youth Justice Agency, Rwanda’s Gacaca Courts, and New Zealand’s Maori Family Group Conferencing. She teaches restorative justice courses at USD, San Diego State University, Vermont Law School, and National University. Dr. Darling’s career integrates advocacy, education, and community-building to promote relational accountability and systemic change.
