Leanne Alcock is a Senior Lecturer in Social Work at the University of Suffolk's School of Social Sciences and Humanities, having joined in January 2023. She maintains strong ties to social work practice, previously working in Local Authority roles until 2022.
Education: Qualified as a Social Worker via the Open University while employed at Suffolk County Council (2009). Completed Practice Educator qualification in 2014.
Research interests focus on relationship-based practice using legislative frameworks like the Mental Capacity Act 2005, advocacy for marginalized groups, and expanding social work education accessibility for underrepresented demographics including men and global majority communities. Specializes in working with older adults, individuals with physical/mental health challenges, and those with learning disabilities/autism.
Professional roles include leading Mental Health and Social Justice modules, coordinating End Point Assessments for Social Work Apprenticeships, and serving as Practice Lead. Active member of Social Work England (SWE) and British Association of Social Workers (BASW).
