Leanne McNeill is a Teaching Fellow at the Strathclyde Institute of Education, University of Strathclyde, serving as Module Leader for Masters in Autism courses and contributing to the Institute of Education Ethics Committee and Disability and Wellbeing team.
Her educational background includes:
- Master of Education, Autism (with Distinction) from University of Strathclyde (2022)
- Master in Science, Psychological Studies from University of Glasgow (2005)
Her research centers on autism support systems, neuro-affirmative practices, family dynamics, and the intersection of autism with spirituality and mental health. She champions social justice through community-based initiatives addressing stigma reduction and suicide prevention, with emphasis on holistic wellbeing and inclusive education frameworks for autistic individuals across lifespan transitions.
She leads the USCAP project (Understanding the spiritual care needs of autistic people and their inclusion in faith communities in Scotland), an internally funded University of Strathclyde initiative (2025-2026) investigating religiosity, coping strategies, and mental health integration.
With over 20 years of field experience, she developed Lanarkshire’s first autistic-led training team, delivers cross-sector professional development programs, and mentors autistic youth transitioning to adulthood through school-community partnerships.
