Gillian Whadcoat is a Lecturer in Social Work and Honorary Research Fellow at the University of East Anglia's School of Social Work. She joined the institution in 2006 and holds a BA Hons (London), MA Social Work/CQSW (UEA, 1992), and a GSCC Practice Teaching Award (UEA, 1995). Her professional roles include Director for CPD Adults and Director for the Approved Mental Health Practitioners programme.
Teaching focuses on postgraduate modules such as Approved Mental Health Professional Modules, Professional Theory and Practice, Leadership and Management, and Assessed and Supported Year in Employment. She also oversees undergraduate and postgraduate dissertation supervision.
Her expertise intersects with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in projects addressing social justice and professional development. Key projects include the Practice Supervisor Development Programme (2018–2022), Training Practice Education Programme (2015–2016), and Developing Newly Qualified Social Workers Supervisors and Mentors Programme (2010–2011).
Pre-UEA, Gillian worked as a Probation Officer in Norfolk and taught at De Montfort University’s BA Community and Criminal Justice course. She has also provided independent practice education for MA Social Work students in Norwich and taught overseas in the Middle East and Africa.
