Laura Stroud serves as the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellbeing at the University of Sunderland. She holds the position of Professor of Public Health and Education Innovation, with extensive expertise in population health and wellbeing, spanning from community activism in the voluntary sector to education, research, policy, and strategy development.
Her primary research interests focus on health professions education, curriculum design, and bridging academic knowledge with practical workplace contexts through the supervision of Specialty Registrars in Public Health. Dr. Stroud has led numerous educational projects and previously spearheaded a comprehensive system quality improvement initiative in healthcare settings. Her work demonstrates a strong commitment to advancing healthcare education and practice through innovative approaches.
Dr. Stroud has published two significant articles in BMJ Leader during 2024, examining staff engagement campaigns in healthcare organizations and leadership approaches that foster shared purpose and identity. These publications reflect her expertise in organizational behavior within healthcare systems and her focus on practical solutions for improving healthcare quality and staff satisfaction.
She currently serves as an Associate Non-Executive board member of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (since March 2024), chairing the Quality Assurance Committee and acting as Board Safety Champion for Maternity Services. Previously, she held Non-Executive positions with Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (2017-2020) and Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (2020-2023), where she chaired the Quality Committee in both organizations, demonstrating her sustained commitment to healthcare quality improvement.
