Dr. Kristofer Chan is a Senior Lecturer in Physical Geography (Education) at King's College London's Department of Geography, part of the School of Global Affairs. He specializes in interdisciplinary research focusing on environmental remote sensing, hydropolitics, and open-source sensors. Kris serves as the Departmental Deputy Education Lead (Digital) and co-leads the Environmental Science for Sustainability MSc program. He teaches modules including GIS & Spatial Data Science and Earth Observation: Science and Applications.
His research integrates satellite remote sensing, GIS, and participatory methods to study environmental impacts of development projects, particularly hydroelectric dams and land-use changes in regions like Colombia and Ethiopia. Kris holds a PhD from King's, an MSc from UCL, and a BSc from Durham University. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Royal Geographical Society, contributing to initiatives like the POR EL Páramo and SIDERA projects.
Kris supervises PhD projects on invasive species in the Serengeti and African savanna wildfires. His work emphasizes technology-enhanced learning and environmental education for community action.
