Professor Terry Dawson is a globally recognized academic in environmental dynamics and global environmental change, affiliated with King's College London's Department of Geography. He holds positions as Professor of Global Environmental Change and leads projects such as the Agroecology Specialist Group of the IUCN. His research spans biogeography, climate change impacts, and ecosystem services, with a focus on rewilding, marine conservation, and sustainable land use.
Education:
- BSc in Geography, University of Exeter (1990)
- MPhil in Geography, University of Cambridge (1994)
- PhD in Physical Geography, University of Southampton (1997)
Research Interests: Terry's work addresses human-environment interactions, climate change mitigation, and biodiversity conservation. He employs remote sensing, GIS, and modeling tools to study ecological dynamics and policy implications. Key themes include rewilding dilemmas, coral reef stressors, and socio-ecological systems in tropical regions.
Articles Trends: Recent publications emphasize climate impacts on marine species, tropical resource use, and governance of protected areas. His work bridges local and global scales, integrating ecological and socio-economic perspectives.
Awards: Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (since 1986).
Grants & Projects: Secured over £6M in grants from NERC, ESRC, and international bodies. Current projects include the Darwin Initiative-funded Pitcairn Islands whale study and Colombia's Páramo land reconciliation initiative.
Labs/Teams: Leads King's Water Centre, Earth Observation and Environmental Sensing Hub, and contributes to the Political Ecology, Biodiversity & Ecosystem Services group.
