Kristin Hammer serves as a Lecturer at the Institute of Midwifery and Reproductive Health, Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), teaching Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Midwifery since 2013. Concurrently, she is a PhD Candidate in sub-project 3 (Ethnography of Human Reproduction and Single Case Studies in Threshold Areas) of the University Research Priority Program Human Reproduction Reloaded at the University of Zurich.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD Candidate in Ethnography of Human Reproduction, University of Zurich (2024–present)
- Master of Advanced Studies in Applied Ethics, University of Zurich (2019–2021)
- Master of Arts in History, German Literature and International Law, University of Zurich (2001–2009)
- Registered Midwife, University of Munich (1994–1997)
Hammer’s research integrates medical anthropology and bioethics to examine empirical and ethical dimensions of egg donation within assisted reproductive technologies. Her work focuses on 'threshold areas'—liminal spaces where reproduction intersects medical, legal, and social boundaries—drawing on 14 years of clinical midwifery experience (1997–2013) at Munich-Harlaching and Zollikerberg hospitals.
As part of the URPP Human Reproduction Reloaded, she contributes to interdisciplinary studies on human reproduction ethics. Her teaching in midwifery programmes bridges clinical practice with scholarly inquiry, though no graduate student advisement or research grants are documented.
