Anna Mann is an adjunct researcher at the University of Zurich’s URPP Human Reproduction Reloaded (H2R) program. As a social scientist specializing in qualitative methods, her research investigates socio-material constructions and enactments of “good medical care” in clinical settings. She currently leads the SNF-Ambizione-Project “(Im-)possibilities of letting life end,” which examines non-life-prolonging care practices in pediatrics and geriatrics, and previously contributed to the ERC-funded project “The Vitality of Disease – Quality of Life in the Making” at the University of Copenhagen.
- PhD in Social and Behavioral Sciences, University of Amsterdam, Netherlands (2015)
- Diplom (Master’s degree) in Sociology, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich, Germany (2007)
Her research bridges social theory with empirical studies in healthcare, focusing on how care and treatment decisions are negotiated through material and social practices. She explores ethical frameworks in clinical contexts, particularly around end-of-life care and quality-of-life improvements for chronic disease patients.
- SNF Ambizione Grant
Mann has held research roles at the Department of Anthropology, University of Copenhagen (2016-2021), and as a PhD researcher at the University of Amsterdam (2010-2015). Earlier, she worked as a research and teaching assistant at Vienna University’s Department for Science and Technology Studies (2007-2008).
She is affiliated with the URPP Human Reproduction Reloaded (H2R) at the University of Zurich, a research program addressing interdisciplinary questions in human reproduction, and contributes to projects examining the interplay between medical practice, ethics, and social theory.
