Dr. Kira Omelchenko is an Associate Professor and Director of Orchestral Studies at James Madison University's School of Music. She holds leadership roles including former Associate Dean of Performance and Recruitment at Wilfrid Laurier University and Director of Orchestral Programs at Florida Southern College and the University of Tampa. Her expertise spans orchestral conducting, music education, and community engagement. A Grammy-nominated educator with over 15 years of teaching experience, she focuses on fostering inclusive environments and innovative pedagogical approaches.
Education:
- Bachelor's in Music/Theatre/Dance – Knox College
- Master's in Orchestral Conducting – University of New Mexico
- Doctorate in Orchestral Conducting – University of Iowa
Research & Interests: Specializes in music health practices, curriculum innovation, and global music education. Her work addresses diversity in conducting and ensemble leadership through international collaborations and publications in Health Education Journal and CODA Journal.
