Kenneth Henning Wathne is Professor of Marketing at the University of Stavanger School of Business and Law and Adjunct Professor at BI Norwegian Business School. He previously served as Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He holds a PhD from Copenhagen Business School and degrees in marketing from BI Norwegian School of Management.
His research focuses on business-to-business marketing, interorganizational relationships, relationship governance, franchising, and marketing strategy. Wathne has published extensively in leading journals such as the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, and Strategic Management Journal. His work often examines governance mechanisms, relational dynamics, and performance outcomes in complex organizational networks.
Recent publications highlight trends in B2B governance, alliance termination, crisis recovery in co-branding, and public procurement. His research integrates theoretical perspectives from transaction cost economics, institutional theory, and relational exchange theory, with empirical rigor and practical relevance.

Wathne serves as Area Editor for the International Journal of Research in Marketing and is on the Editorial Review Board of several journals including Journal of Marketing, Journal of Retailing, and Journal of Business-to-Business Marketing. He has advised and collaborated with numerous researchers, including Jon Bingen Sande, Mariia Koval, and Sudha Mani. He has received research support through academic collaborations and conference presentations.
He is actively involved in research teams focusing on interorganizational problem solving, relational contracting, and innovation in public procurement, often collaborating with colleagues at the University of Stavanger and beyond.
