Karin Gustafsson is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at Örebro University, affiliated with the School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences and the Department of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences. She directs the Center for Social Science Environmental and Sustainability Research (CESSS). Her research focuses on environmental sociology, climate change, biodiversity, and science-policy interfaces. Current projects include studying youth trust in climate science and exploring IPCC/IPBES institutional dynamics.
Research interests emphasize the role of science in international governance, expert socialization, and transformative sustainability science. She teaches academic writing, research methods, and sustainable development, supervising bachelor/master theses. During April–June 2026, she will be a visiting researcher at Leibniz University Hannover.
Publications highlight climate activism’s social media discourse, expert organizations’ roles in early-career development, and IPBES/ IPCC institutional effectiveness. She has held visiting roles at Lancaster University, Cornell University, and Wageningen UR.
