Rolf Lidskog is a Professor at Örebro University, affiliated with the School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences and the Department of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences. His research focuses on environmental sociology, environmental governance, risk communication, and the sociology of science, with particular emphasis on climate change, biodiversity, air pollution, and nuclear waste management. He has led over 30 research projects funded by institutions like Formas and the Swedish Research Council. Lidskog has held leadership roles, including vice-president of the International Sociological Association’s Environment and Society committee (2018–2023) and board membership at Formas and the Swedish Forest Agency. He has supervised 16 PhD students and authored/edited multiple books and over 120 peer-reviewed articles. His work emphasizes the role of social sciences in global environmental assessments like the IPCC and IPBES, advocating for transformative governance and interdisciplinary expertise.
Research interests span environmental policy at international/national levels, expertise in governance, and risk perception. Key areas include climate policy, biodiversity loss, and the interplay between science and public engagement. Lidskog’s recent projects address making environmental knowledge 'useable' for policy, accountability in crises, and transdisciplinary approaches to sustainability. He collaborates with global networks and contributes to policy reviews for bodies like the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
Publications highlight themes such as IPCC processes, risk communication in municipalities, and the sociological dimensions of environmental crises. His work bridges theory and practice, influencing both academic discourse and policy-making through boundary organizations and epistemic infrastructures. Lidskog’s research also explores urban sociology, including crime prevention and security in cities, reflecting his broader commitment to societal challenges.
