Juliana A. Gray is a Professor of English at Alfred University's College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. She holds a BA from the University of Alabama (1994), an MA from the University of Tennessee (1997), and a PhD from the University of Cincinnati (2001). Her research focuses on Creative Writing, Poetry, and American literary traditions, with specialties in Twentieth-Century/Contemporary American Fiction/Poetry, Southern Literature, and Popular Culture/True Crime.
Gray has authored multiple poetry collections, including Honeymoon Palsy (2017), winner of the 2010 Orphic Prize and the 2013 Eugene Paul Nassar Poetry Prize. Other works include Roleplay (2012) and The Man Under My Skin (2005). Her poetry has appeared in literary journals and anthologies, and her humor writing is featured in outlets like McSweeney's and The Millions.
Gray has been affiliated with the Sewanee Writers’ Conference since 2000, teaching at its Young Writers’ Conference and contributing to its staff. She also participated in the La Muse Writers’ and Artists’ Retreat in France.
Her awards include recognition for Roleplay as the best poetry collection by an upstate New York author. Gray’s work blends dark humor with formalist techniques, exploring themes of identity, societal tension, and human desire.
