April Lindner is a Professor in the Department of English, Writing and Journalism. She holds a PhD in English from the University of Cincinnati (1998), an MFA in Writing from Sarah Lawrence College (1989), and a BA from the University of New Hampshire (1984). Her work bridges creative writing, literary criticism, and pedagogy. She specializes in Young Adult fiction, contemporary American poetry, and women's literature, with a focus on retellings of classic works and formalist techniques. Lindner has authored three YA novels—Jane, Catherine, and Love, Lucy—as well as poetry collections like Skin (winner of the Walt McDonald First Book Prize) and This Bed Our Bodies Shaped.
In editorial roles, she has co-edited anthologies such as Contemporary Catholic Poetry and Contemporary American Poetry. Her critical works include monographs on Dana Gioia and New Formalist poets. Lindner emphasizes collaborative writing workshops in her teaching, fostering peer editing and student-led learning environments.
Her awards include the Walt McDonald First Book Poetry Prize for Skin (2001). Lindner’s publications span poetry, fiction, textbooks, and edited volumes, reflecting her interdisciplinary engagement with literature and its pedagogical applications.
