Sara Henning (she/her) is an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at Marshall University, specializing in poetry and creative writing pedagogy. She has authored three acclaimed poetry collections: Burn (Southern Illinois University Press, 2024), Terra Incognita (Ohio University Press, 2022), and View from True North (Southern Illinois University Press, 2018). Her work explores themes of grief, illness, trauma, and feminist poetics.

Henning’s research spans confessional poetics, neo-formalism, prosody, ekphrasis, and the aesthetics of trauma. She contributes to creative writing pedagogy and examines the intersection of personal narrative with literary form.
Her accolades include the 2022 Crab Orchard Series in Poetry Editor’s Selection, the 2021 Hollis Summers Poetry Prize, the 2015 Crazyhorse Lynda Hull Memorial Poetry Prize, and multiple scholarships. She also coordinates the A.E. Stringer Visiting Writers Series at Marshall University.
