معرفی
Dr. Joshua Li is a Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Virginia. As Vice Chair for Research and Director of the Orthopaedic Spine Fellowship, he combines clinical expertise in spine surgery with cutting-edge research on disc degeneration pathology. His laboratory, established in 2004, focuses on nanotechnology, stem cell therapy, and gene delivery systems for spine regeneration.
- Education: Completed orthopaedic surgery residency at UVA and spine fellowship at Columbia Spine Hospital
Research Interests: Specializes in intervertebral disc biology, developing fullerenes for inflammation targeting, and microfluidic platforms for disc degeneration modeling. His work bridges clinical needs with bioengineering solutions, particularly in macrophage-targeted nanomedicine.
Grant History: Over 36 grants as PI/Co-PI including 8 NIH R-series awards. Notable grants include R01 funding for 'Deciphering Macrophage Function in Disc Herniation' (2022-2027) and R21 projects on 'Disc-on-chip' technology (2018-2021).
Awards: Recipient of the prestigious 2012 Kappa Delta Young Investigator Award, multiple NIH grants, and numerous Outstanding Paper/Travel Awards from the North American Spine Society and Orthopaedic Research Society.
Laboratory: Leads a multidisciplinary team with Professor Li Jin and Dr. Li Xiao, focusing on nanoparticle-based therapies and molecular imaging for spine pathologies.
