معرفی
Nilsson Holguin, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, with dual appointments in the Leni and Peter W. May Department of Orthopaedics and the Department of Cell, Developmental & Regenerative Biology. As Director of the MicroCT Core, he specializes in translational spine research, focusing on aging, biomechanics, and regenerative therapies for intervertebral disc degeneration.
- PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Stony Brook University
- Post-doctoral training at Washington University in St. Louis
- Former faculty at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis
Dr. Holguin’s research integrates molecular biology, imaging techniques, and biomechanical modeling to study spine health. His work explores Wnt signaling, SERPINA1 gene function, and pharmacological interventions like raloxifene for age- and sex-related disc degeneration. Current projects include microfracture injury models and suppression of sclerostin to enhance disc structure.
His publications highlight advancements in understanding disc degeneration mechanisms and therapeutic strategies involving mechanical vibrations, estrogen signaling, and gene regulation. Dr. Holguin’s affiliations span orthopedic surgery, regenerative medicine, and biomedical engineering domains.
