Jon Waters is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Athletic Bands and Music Education at Bowling Green State University's College of Musical Arts. Previously, he served at Heidelberg University from 2016, teaching courses such as Symphonic Band, Brass Methods, and Instrumental Music Education. Renowned for innovative uses of technology in marching band formations—such as iPad-driven animated designs—he gained global recognition and millions of YouTube views. He delivered a TEDx talk titled 'Tradition thru Innovation' in 2014 and directed the Tournament of Roses Rose Parade's marching band in 2022.
Education: B.A. in Music Education, and M.M. in Conducting and M.A. in Music Education from The Ohio State University. A Northwest Ohio native, he graduated from Woodmore High School. His expertise spans athletic band leadership, music education pedagogy, and integrating technology into performance. He currently oversees athletic bands at BGSU and teaches music education curricula.
