Matthew Conaway is a newly promoted Full Professor at Purdue University, serving within the Purdue Bands and Orchestras. He is the conductor of the Symphonic and Varsity Bands, assistant director of the renowned “All-American” Marching Band, and director of the Boiler Brass men’s basketball pep band. In addition to these roles, he supervises the band’s auxiliary units, coordinates marching-band travel and technology, and organizes the annual Band Day event.

Research & Creative Work:
Professor Conaway is an internationally recognized composer and arranger for concert and athletic bands. His catalog includes roughly 50 published works and countless arrangements performed at festivals, bowl games, and NCAA basketball tournaments, reaching audiences numbering in the millions. His creative output spans original concert-band compositions, athletic-band arrangements, and pedagogical materials for high-school and collegiate ensembles.
Service & Mentorship:
Conaway mentors multiple student organizations and is an active member of the Purdue University Senate and the Advisory Committee on Equity. He also functions as the department’s technology coordinator, ensuring cutting-edge resources support rehearsals, performances, and travel logistics.
