Dr. Brian Sproul serves as Associate Professor (Lecturer) and Director of Athletic Bands at the University of Utah's School of Music, where he directs the marching band, pep bands, and symphonic band. Appointed in 2020 after serving as Assistant Professor (Lecturer) from 2009-2020, he previously held faculty positions at the University of Utah in 2001 and Clemson University, directing athletic band programs and contributing to major events including the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Spirit Band ceremonies.
His educational background includes a DMA in Instrumental Conducting from the University of Alabama (2006), MMed in Music Education from the University of Utah (2002), and BMUSed from the University of Georgia (1997). He also taught high school band in metro-Atlanta prior to doctoral studies.
Dr. Sproul's research focuses on band conducting methodologies and athletic band performance design, emphasizing creative integration of visual choreography with musical expression.
