John J. Fitzgerald is an Associate Professor of Theology and Religious Studies at St. John's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, St. John's University. He holds a Ph.D. in Moral Theology/Ethics from The Catholic University of America, a J.D. from The University of Notre Dame, and an A.B. in Philosophy from Princeton University.
His research focuses on ethics, particularly in healthcare and fundamental moral issues, and philosophy of religion, engaging with Jewish, Buddhist, and secular perspectives. He authored The Seductiveness of Virtue: Abraham Joshua Heschel and John Paul II on Morality and Personal Fulfillment (2018) and co-edited Treating the Body in Medicine and Religion (2019). His work bridges Catholic theology with interdisciplinary dialogue in philosophy, psychology, and law.
Dr. Fitzgerald has been recognized for research excellence with Faculty Recognition Awards from St. John’s in 2014-15 and 2016-17. He is a licensed attorney in New York and New Jersey.
