Christopher P. Vogt is a Professor of Theology and Religious Studies at St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, St. John’s University. He also serves as a Senior Fellow of the Vincentian Center for Church and Society. Vogt holds a Ph.D. from Boston College, an M.T.S. from Harvard Divinity School, and an A.B. from College of the Holy Cross.
His research focuses on the Christian Ars Moriendi tradition, exploring contemporary Christian perspectives on dying well, and the role of virtue ethics in shaping social engagement. He is the author of Patience, Compassion, Hope, and the Christian Art of Dying Well (2004) and is currently writing a book on Catholic higher education emphasizing Pope Francis’s theology of encounter. His work also examines ecological ethics, LGBTQ+ inclusion in religious institutions, and the intersection of business ethics with virtue theory.
Vogt’s recent publications engage topics like Catholic social teaching’s application to environmental justice, ethical responses to scandal involving LGBTQ+ ministry personnel, and the role of mercy in political virtues. His articles appear in journals such as Theological Studies, Journal of Catholic Social Thought, and Rassegna di Teologia.
In teaching, he instructs courses on Catholic moral theology, social teaching, bioethics, and ethics in the marketplace. He currently serves as graduate program director for Theology & Religious Studies and academic liaison to the Catholic Scholars Program.
