Dr. Jeremy McBain is an Associate Professor of Music at the University of Texas at Tyler, where he teaches applied trumpet, brass chamber music, brass methods, and arranging. He previously taught at Eastern Illinois University, Millikin University, and Saint Mary’s College. Active as a freelance trumpeter, he serves as principal trumpet of the Texarkana Symphony and is a member of the Rose City Brass Quintet and Rose City Jazz Orchestra. His research focuses on historical performance practices, particularly the role of early brass instruments in orchestral works.
McBain holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Illinois (2012), a Master of Music from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Houston. His doctoral thesis, presented at the 2016 International Trumpet Guild Conference, explored Hector Berlioz’s use of the cornet à pistons. He has performed with ensembles such as the Bach Society of Houston and the State Symphony Orchestra of Mexico, collaborating with notable artists including Doc Severinsen and Michael Brecker.
Outside academia, McBain enjoys biking and hiking with his family.
