Amy Gilreath serves as Artist in Residence in Trumpet at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, maintaining an active performance career as Principal Trumpet of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra since 1999 and Co-Principal Trumpet with Sinfonia da Camera. She co-founded Stiletto Brass Quintet and performs internationally with ensembles including Monarch Brass Ensemble and Consortium Brass Quintet.
Her educational background features a Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Dr. Gilreath's artistic focus spans trumpet performance, chamber music, and brass repertoire expansion, notably through her research on Soviet Union trumpet concertos which introduced these works to the global trumpet community. As a pedagogue, she directs Orvieto Musica's Trumpet Fest and has conducted masterclasses at the Moscow Conservatory, Royal Academy of London, and universities across the United States.
Her accolades include the Illinois State University Outstanding Creative Arts Award and Outstanding Teacher Award in the School of Music. She serves on the International Women’s Brass Conference Board and previously held board positions with the International Trumpet Guild.
Dr. Gilreath mentors emerging musicians through ongoing masterclasses and festival leadership, having retired from Illinois State University in 2019 after 29 years as Professor of Trumpet—the institution's first female trumpet professor.
Her ensemble work includes recordings like Stiletto Brass Quintet with Doc Severinsen and Scarpe!, alongside collaborations with Doc Severinsen, Marvin Stamm, and Ron Romm.
