Jeremy Begbie is the Thomas A. Langford Distinguished Research Professor of Theology at Duke University's Divinity School, a position he has held since 2009. His academic work focuses on the intersection of theology with the arts, particularly music, exploring topics such as liturgical aesthetics, theological anthropology, and the role of imagination in faith. Previously, he served as Associate Principal at Ridley Hall, Cambridge, and as Honorary Professor at the University of St Andrews, where he directed the 'Theology Through the Arts' research initiative. He holds a B.A. from the University of Edinburgh (1977) and a Ph.D. from the University of Aberdeen (1987).
His research emphasizes interdisciplinary dialogue between theology, music, and the arts. Notable projects include the Duke-Cambridge Partnership in Arts and Theology (2009–2011) and the Kenan-supported 'Theology and the Arts' initiative. He has authored influential works such as Resounding Truth: Christian Wisdom in the World of Music (2008) and co-edited volumes on theology, music, and modernity. Recent courses include 'Theology and Music' and 'The Theology of Karl Barth.'
