Prof Trevor Andrew Hart is an Honorary Professor at the School of Divinity, University of St Andrews, where he has held roles including Dean of the Faculty of Divinity (2005), Director of the Institute for Theology, Imagination and the Arts (ITIA), Head of School (2010–present), and Principal of St Mary's College (2005–present). His academic qualifications include a BA from the University of Durham and a PhD from the University of Aberdeen.
His research focuses on theology's intersection with the arts, imagination in religious contexts, and 19th-century Scottish theology. Key themes include ecumenical theology, biblical interpretation, and the works of Karl Barth. Hart has contributed to interdisciplinary studies on theological imagination and the relationship between literature and faith, with notable works analyzing Milton’s Paradise Lost and Coleridge’s poetic theology.
His publications span monographs, edited volumes, and peer-reviewed articles, reflecting his expertise in ecumenism, liturgical theology, and aesthetic theology. Hart has supervised research projects including an EPSRC Academic Fellowship (2004–2011) and contributed to BBC Radio 4’s Beyond Belief on art and religion.
