Prof. Dr. Jens Prütting holds the Chair of Civil Law, Medical and Health Law at Bucerius Law School since 2021, where he also serves as Director of the Institute for Medical Law. Previously a Junior Professor at the same institution starting in 2015, his academic journey includes a doctorate from the University of Cologne on "Legal Aspects of Deep Brain Stimulation" and a habilitation at Heidelberg University focusing on cross-field legal conflicts in healthcare. He earned an LL.M. in Commercial Law with top honors.
Prütting's research spans medical law, civil law, corporate governance, and sustainability in healthcare systems. His current work analyzes ecological optimization in healthcare legislation, aiming to reduce environmental footprints of pharmaceutical companies and hospitals. Additional interests include family business structures, civil procedure reform, and intersections of social security law with medical ethics.
Honors include Faculty Teaching Awards from Freiburg University (2014) and Bucerius Law School (2019). He directs multiple academic initiatives including the Notary Center for Family Businesses and founded the Expert Committee on Self-Determination Education. Prütting also co-founded the Hamburg Circle for Family Business Law and actively participates in medical-legal reform initiatives.
