Anette Grünewald

Prof. Anette Grünewald is a university professor at Friedrich Schiller University of Jena since 2018 and previously held roles at Humboldt University of Berlin (since 2013) and other institutions. Her research focuses on criminal law fundamentals, legal philosophy, legal history (18th century onwards), medical criminal law, and European criminal law.

Education: Studied law and philosophy at Albert Ludwig University (Freiburg) and University of Hamburg. Completed First and Second State Examinations in Hamburg (1993/1996), a doctorate in 1999, and habilitation in 2009 (venia legendi in criminal law, criminal procedural law, European criminal law, and legal philosophy). Served acting professorships at Universities of Münster, Bonn, Heidelberg, and Frankfurt am Main.

Professional Activities: Member of the Federal Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection’s expert group for homicide offense reform (2014/15).
