Jeffrey L. George serves as Professor of Guitar Studies at the School of Music and Performing Arts, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, a position held since 2001. An accomplished multi-genre performer, he has collaborated with artists including Joe Henderson, Billy Childs, Taj Mahal, and David Baker across rock, country, bluegrass, reggae, blues, and jazz contexts.
His educational background includes nine years of university study with classical guitarists Frank Koonce, Ernesto Bitteti, Paul Reilly, and Scott Tennant, supplemented by specialized programs at Berklee College of Music, Musicians Institute, and the National Guitar Summer Workshop.
Dr. George's research focuses on guitar performance practice and pedagogy, with scholarly emphasis on historical repertoire and jazz techniques. His work bridges academic rigor and practical performance, reflecting deep engagement with both classical traditions and contemporary improvisational forms.
He maintains active professional service through memberships in the American String Teachers Association, College Music Society, and Jazz Educators Network, and has been an invited lecturer for the Guitar Foundation of America.
