Steven Kirby is a Visiting Professor in the Department of Music at Wellesley College and an Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music. He is a guitarist, composer, and educator with expertise in jazz, rock, Brazilian, blues, and classical genres.

Kirby’s research and creative work focus on jazz guitar performance, cross-genre musical fusion, and pedagogical strategies for instrumental instruction. His compositions blend modern jazz with elements of lyricism and technical innovation.
His awards include recognition from the International Songwriting Competition, Billboard Song Contest, and Downbeat Magazine. His album Illuminations received a Downbeat Editors Pick and Grammy nomination longlistings in four categories.
Kirby contributes to music literature through articles in Guitar Player Magazine and Jazz Improv Magazine, and authored the instructional book Jazz Guitar Strategies (Hal Leonard, 2020). He has collaborated with renowned musicians like Chris Potter, Joe Lovano, and Allan Holdsworth, with performances across 100+ radio stations and international tours.
