Dr Jan-Herman Kuiper is a Senior Lecturer in Biomechanics at Keele University, based at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital. His academic career includes roles as Lecturer (2001-2017) and Senior Lecturer (since 2017). He holds a PhD from the University of Nijmegen, Netherlands, and has extensive research experience in biomechanical modeling and clinical applications.
Research focuses on mechanical control of skeletal tissue formation, fracture repair, and implant design. Collaborations include projects with Prof Alicia El Haj on 3D scaffold bone formation, AO Foundation-funded limb lengthening studies, and the EU-funded MYJOINT project to develop synovial joints via mechanical modeling. Funding sources include EPSRC and European Commission grants.
Teaching responsibilities span biomechanics, orthopaedic science, and statistics modules. He supervises undergraduate, postgraduate, and clinical researchers annually. Professional memberships include the British Orthopaedic Research Society and American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
