Dr. Charlotte Hulme is a Lecturer in Regenerative Medicine at Keele University's School of Pharmacy and Bioengineering, based at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital. She obtained her BSc in Biology from the University of Manchester in 2011 and completed her PhD in Developmental Medicine at the same institution. Her research employs systems biology approaches to investigate disease mechanisms.
Research interests focus on orthopedic regeneration including:
- Biomarker identification for spinal cord injury
- Cartilage repair and osteoarthritis treatments
- Cell-based therapies using bioreactor systems
- Proteomic/metabolomic analysis of disease mechanisms
Publications demonstrate strong focus on proteomic biomarker discovery and cellular therapies for orthopedic conditions, with recent work exploring bioreactor manufacturing and allogeneic cell applications.
Supervises PhD students in orthopaedic research including projects on spinal cord injury biomarkers, cartilage therapies, and bacterial detection in joint replacements. Secured funding from MRC and Institute of Orthopaedics.
Membership lead for Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Ethics Committee member. Collaborates with Oswestry Keele Orthopaedic Research group.
