James Trauer is an Associate Professor (Research) in Biostatistics, Data Analytics/Modelling, and Health Economics at Monash University, leading the Epidemiological Modelling Unit within the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. He specializes in infectious disease dynamics, with a focus on tuberculosis (TB) and pandemic response strategies for diseases like COVID-19. His work integrates deterministic/stochastic modelling, Bayesian inference, and health economics, collaborating globally with WHO regions and institutions such as the Burnet Institute and Murdoch Children's Research Institute.
Education and Research Interests: Trauer’s research spans TB epidemiology, pandemic preparedness, and health systems modeling. He has led projects in multiple countries, including Malaysia, Vietnam, and Papua New Guinea, and contributed to WHO’s pandemic modeling frameworks. His clinical work includes respiratory and sleep medicine at the Alfred Hospital and the Victorian TB Program.
