Dr. Romain Ragonnet is a Senior Research Fellow at Monash University’s School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, specializing in infectious disease modeling. He holds a PhD from the University of Melbourne (2019) and a Master’s in Applied Mathematics from Lille, France (2015). His work focuses on tuberculosis (TB) and pandemic preparedness, with notable contributions to TB elimination strategies and advising governments on COVID-19 responses. He is an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow and leads interdisciplinary projects in the Asia-Pacific region.
Education:
- PhD in Infectious Disease Modelling, University of Melbourne (2019)
- MSc in Applied Mathematics, Université de Lille (2015)
Research Interests: Mathematical modeling of infectious diseases, TB control strategies, pandemic response optimization, and health economics. His work bridges epidemiology, biostatistics, and medical ethics to inform public health policy.
Recent Research Trends: His articles emphasize TB epidemiology in high-burden regions, pandemic modeling (e.g., Omicron waves, school closure impacts), and vaccine allocation optimization. Collaborations span global health organizations and academic institutions.
Awards:
- Best ECR Paper (2020, 2021)
- Incubator Awards Boost Category (2024)
Advising & Grants: Accepting PhD students; leads projects funded by NHMRC and WHO, focusing on TB and pandemic modeling.
Labs/Teams: Part of the Epidemiological Modelling Unit at Monash, collaborating with global experts in biostatistics, respiratory medicine, and public health policy.
