Dr. Ian Woolley is an Adjunct Clinical Professor in Medicine at Monash University, affiliated with Monash Health. He holds leadership roles as Deputy Director of Infectious Diseases and Director of HIV Medicine at Monash Health. His research focuses on HIV/AIDS treatment outcomes, cardiovascular risks in HIV patients, antimicrobial resistance, and infectious disease management in vulnerable populations. He leads major clinical trials evaluating new HIV therapies and has pioneered studies on post-splenectomy care and long-term antibiotic use.
Research interests include HIV epidemiology, geriatric outcomes in HIV-positive patients, and the impact of comorbidities like atherosclerosis. He has authored over 189 peer-reviewed publications and led 8 active/funded projects, including Phase 3 HIV treatment trials and the PROPHECY study on SARS-CoV-2 immune responses. Woolley collaborates with institutions like Murdoch Children's Research Institute and Burnet Institute, addressing global health challenges through multidisciplinary networks.
