James McFalls is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Music within Towson University's College of Fine Arts and Communication. A retired 17-year veteran of the US Army Jazz Ambassadors, he maintains an active career as a trombonist, educator, and touring musician. His affiliations include performances with the Baltimore Symphony Pops, Kennedy Center Orchestra, and ensembles like Capitol Bones and Technicolor Motorhome.
McFalls specializes in jazz and commercial music education, employing a motivational teaching style focused on student engagement. His research explores trombone performance techniques, jazz pedagogy, and cross-genre musical collaboration.
His discography includes over 50 recordings spanning jazz, techno, and go-go genres. Recent works demonstrate strong emphasis on Latin jazz fusion, evidenced by his contribution to the 2008 Latin Grammy-winning album Caribbean Jazz Project: Afro Bop Alliance.
