Andy Baker is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago's School of Theatre and Music. A versatile trombonist, composer, and educator, he teaches courses in jazz fundamentals, ensembles, and combos. Based in Chicago since 2001, he maintains dual expertise in jazz and classical trombone performance.
- Education: Master of Music from DePaul University
Research & Artistic Interests span Jazz Composition, Trombone Technique, Chordless Ensemble Dynamics, Transatlantic Jazz Traditions, and Music Pedagogy. His creative work focuses on blending jazz improvisation with classical precision.
Recent Creative Output includes the 2024 album From Here, From There, featuring original compositions that explore free improvisation, bebop revival, and post-bop experimentation through a chordless quartet format.
