Dr Isaac Hoff is a Lecturer in Media and Sociology at the University of Glasgow's Sociological & Cultural Studies department, affiliated with the Glasgow University Media Group (GUMG). He joined in 2022 following teaching roles at De Montfort University, Birmingham City University, the University of Leicester, and the University of Northampton. His PhD from the University of Leicester (2017–2021), conducted at CAMEo (Cultural and Media Economies institute), explored white men’s navigation of adulthood and leisure under UK austerity, focusing on masculinity, class, and race.
His research interests center on culture and leisure practices, masculinities, youth transitions, crisis representation in media, and class dynamics. Recent work includes studies on the cost-of-living crisis in the UK context, five-a-side football as a site of masculinity, and interdisciplinary approaches to cultural studies. He co-convenes MSc Media, Culture and Society and teaches courses on gender, media methods, and qualitative research.
Key publications analyze the sociocultural dimensions of crisis narratives and white petty bourgeois masculinities. Hoff actively contributes to academic discourse through panels on intersectional methods and interdisciplinary research strategies.
