Professor Stephan Leuenberger holds a position at the University of Glasgow's Department of Philosophy. His research focuses on the intersection of metaphysics and philosophical logic, particularly exploring stratified reality levels and principles like Ockham's razor in metaphysical theory-choice. He also investigates metaphysical issues in legal philosophy, addressing how legal reality at one time can be shaped by events at another time.
His academic contributions include editing Themes from Weir: A Celebration of the Philosophy of Alan Weir (2024) and publishing widely in journals like Journal of Philosophy and Philosophical Studies. He has secured grants including the Swiss National Science Foundation's 'Being without Foundations' (2019–2023) and the AHRC's 'The Whole Truth' (2016–2017). Professor Leuenberger supervises students in metaphysics, logic, and legal philosophy, and teaches modules including 'Philosophy 2B: What Exists?', 'Metaphysics', and 'Philosophy of Law'. He is also a Visiting Professor at the MAP program at USI Lugano and an affiliated member of the eidos Centre for Metaphysics at the University of Geneva.
His work spans theoretical metaphysics, legal reasoning (e.g., AI applications in law), and formal logic systems. Recent publications analyze global supervenience, epistemic logic frameworks, and the contingency of contingency.
