Dr. Gwenda Jones is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology & Social Policy at Bangor University’s School of History, Law and Social Sciences. She also serves as Programme Lead for Criminology, Criminal Justice & Policing. Former roles include Senior Tutor (2021–2024), University Unfair Practice Panel Member (2017–2021), and Director of Teaching and Learning (2015–2018). She holds a MPhil and DPhil from the University of Wales.
Her research focuses on criminology, criminal justice, and the Welsh language in education, including studies on higher education choice, regional development policy, and e-learning in Welsh-medium contexts. She has collaborated on EU-funded projects addressing community development and language planning.
Teaching specialties include criminology, policing modules (e.g., Police Constable Role Intermediate), and dissertation supervision. She has pioneered Welsh-medium criminology modules and enhanced student experiences through placement learning.
Her publications span criminology textbooks, sociological analyses of higher education, and regional economic studies. Collaborations include the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol and interdisciplinary projects with economists and policymakers.
