Gregory E. Louis is an Associate Professor of Law at the City University of New York, specializing in corporate law with a focus on business, nonprofit, and municipal governance. He co-founded and served as General Counsel of Communities Resist, a civil legal services organization in Brooklyn and Queens, where he supervised staff and litigated cases involving tenant rights, housing cooperatives, and community benefit agreements. Previously, he worked as a business associate at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, LLP, advising on corporate transactions and securities compliance. His research explores corporate and social power dynamics, particularly in marginalized communities of color and immigrant groups. He has published widely on topics including regulatory enforcement, housing law, and progressive corporate governance. His recent work includes critiques of legal frameworks and advocacy for equitable urban policies.
Before law school, Professor Louis tutored underserved students through Columbia University’s Double Discovery Center. His academic contributions span law reviews, media editorials, and policy analyses, addressing issues like wealth inequality and systemic discrimination in urban development.
