Giuseppe Ceraudo is a Full Professor of Ancient Topography (L-ANT/09) at the Department of Cultural Heritage, University of Salento, where he also serves as Coordinator of the PhD Program in Cultural Heritage Sciences. He leads two major research laboratories: the Laboratory of Archaeological Aerotopography and Remote Sensing and the Laboratory of Ancient Topography and Photogrammetry.
Education:
- Graduated in Literature with a major in Archaeology, University of Rome "La Sapienza", 1991 (110/110 cum laude)
Research Interests: His research focuses on Ancient Topography, Archaeological Aerotopography, Photogrammetry, GIS, UAVs, Geophysical Prospecting, and Landscape Archaeology. He promotes innovative, non-invasive methodologies and digital documentation in archaeology. His work emphasizes participatory archaeology and public engagement through social media and augmented reality applications.
Publications & Research Trends: His recent scholarly output centers on the integration of remote sensing technologies in classical archaeology, particularly in central and southern Italy. Key themes include the reconstruction of Roman urban landscapes (e.g., Aquinum), the mapping of ancient roads (e.g., Via Traiana), and the use of drones for topographic survey. His publications reflect a strong emphasis on field application, digital innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

He also serves on the scientific committees of numerous journals and book series. He directs long-term field projects including Ager Aquinas, Via Traiana, and the excavation and valorization of Aquinum, where he is also Scientific Director of the archaeological area and the Metateca multimedia museum.
Laboratories and Research Groups: He coordinates the Laboratory of Ancient Topography and Photogrammetry (University of Salento) and leads international collaborations such as the Multidisciplinary Archaeological Italian Project at Shahr-i Sokhta (MAIPS) in Iran.
