Enrico ASCALONE is a University Researcher at the Department of Cultural Heritage at the University of Salento, Italy. He holds a PhD from the University of Naples 'L'Orientale' (2003) and has extensive academic qualifications, including national habilitation for professorial roles in Near Eastern Archaeology. His expertise focuses on the archaeology and art history of the Ancient Near East, with specialization in Iranian and Mesopotamian Bronze Age cultures.
He has directed major international projects, such as the multidisciplinary excavations at Shahr-i Sokhta (Iran) and co-directed missions in Syria and Uzbekistan. Key collaborations include agreements with institutions in Iran, India, Uzbekistan, and Germany. His research involves archaeological fieldwork, artifact analysis, and interdisciplinary studies on ancient economies, urbanization, and cultural interactions.
ASCALONE has secured significant funding from Italian and international bodies, including the MAECI and the University of Salento. He organizes conferences, workshops, and exhibitions, such as the 'Shahr-i Sokhta' series in Iran and Italy. His teaching spans courses on Near Eastern archaeology at the University of Rome 3 and the University of Salento, including graduate and specialization programs.
He serves as a referee for top journals like Iranica Antiqua and Ash Sharq, and holds editorial roles in archaeological series. His leadership roles include managing international partnerships and overseeing research initiatives in Central and South Asia.
