Erol Gelenbe is a distinguished academic holding positions as Professor at the Polish Academy of Sciences' Institute of Theoretical and Applied Informatics (since 2017) and Visiting Professor at King's College London's Department of Engineering. He has held prominent roles globally, including Dennis Gabor Chair Professor at Imperial College London (2003–2019), University Chair Professor at the University of Central Florida (1998–2003), and Nello L. Teer Professor at Duke University (1993–1998). His academic journey spans institutions in Turkey, France, Belgium, the USA, and the UK.
- Education: BSc (High Honours) from Middle East Technical University; MSc/PhD from New York University Polytechnic Institute; Doctorat d’État from Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris VI).
- Research Interests: Focuses on neuronal networks, machine learning, bio-inspired computing, computer network design, performance evaluation, and cybersecurity. His work bridges probability theory with computer science and physical sciences.
- Awards: Recipient of the Mustafa Prize (2018), ACM SIGMETRICS Achievement Award (2008), and multiple national and international honours including France’s Legion d’Honneur and Poland’s Officer of Merit Cross.
