Erol Gelenbe is a Professor at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College London. He is a Fellow of IEEE, ACM, and IET(UK), and holds honorary doctorates from Universities of Liège, Roma-Tor Vergata, and Bogaziçi. His research focuses on energy efficiency in ICT systems, network security, and bioinformatics modeling. He pioneered the Random Neural Network (G-Networks) and developed the FLEXSIM simulation framework for manufacturing systems. His work integrates theoretical models with practical applications in software-defined networks (CPN), energy packet networks, and cyber-physical systems.
Awards & Recognition: Recipient of the In Memoriam Dennis Gabor Award (2013), IET Oliver Lodge Medal (2010), and France’s Officer of the Order of Merit. Elected to the French National Academy of Engineering, Science Academies of Hungary and Poland, and the Science Academy of Turkey.
Research Contributions: Current projects include EU-funded NEMESYS (Mobile Network Security), ECROPS (Energy Harvesting in ICT), and PANACEA (Self-Organizing Clouds). His recent work addresses energy-QoS trade-offs in data centers, dynamic energy allocation, and bio-inspired network models for gene regulation and neuronal systems.
Professional Activities: IEEE Distinguished Lecturer, conference organizer (General Chair IEEE NCCA 2012, Co-Chair IEEE HPCC 2013), and editor for journals including IEEE Transactions on Cloud Computing and Performance Evaluation. Supervised over 60 PhD students.
